YOUNGTHERM© GLASS WOOL MBI

Youngtherm Glass Wool MBI (Metal Building Insulation) is a lightweight, flexible, and non-combustible glass wool insulation blanket designed for commercial and industrial roofing applications. It provides reliable thermal resistance, effective sound absorption, fire-safety compliance, and long-term durability across a wide range of large-span building projects.

Manufactured from glass wool fibres and faced with reinforced foil, white metallised foil or black metallised foil, Youngtherm® Glass Wool MBI provides enhanced thermal and condensation control performance. The facing options support energy-efficient buildings while improving indoor comfort and managing moisture within the roof assembly.

The insulation is suitable for commercial and industrial buildings, particularly large-span structures where both thermal control and acoustic performance are required. It is approved for use in single- and multi-storey buildings where fire compliance is required.

KEY BENEFITS

Youngtherm® Glass Wool MBI offers several performance advantages that support efficient building design.

Benefits include:

  • Lifelong energy savings
  • Excellent thermal and acoustic properties
  • Helps to prevent condensation
  • Significantly reduces heat loss and heat gain
  • Suitable for high humidity applications
  • Maintenance-free with a long product life that will not readily age
  • Compression packed for optimised transport and storage
  • Made to size to reduce wastage, subject to minimum order quantity
  • Manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 quality management standards
  • Produced in line with ISO 14001 environmental management standards

THERMAL AND ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE

Youngtherm® Glass Wool MBI improves the energy performance of buildings by reducing heat transfer through roof assemblies.

The insulation layer provides conductive thermal resistance which limits heat gain during hot weather and reduces heat loss during colder periods. This contributes to improved energy efficiency and more stable indoor temperatures.

In addition to thermal performance, the glass wool structure provides exceptional noise absorption and enhances indoor environmental quality. This improves acoustic comfort in large-span commercial and industrial buildings where noise control is important.

Thermal conductivity (k-value):

0.038 W/m·K

FIRE PERFORMANCE

Youngtherm® Glass Wool MBI is classified as a non-combustible insulation material and complies with recognised fire performance standards, including:

  • Class A2 non-combustible classification
  • Fire rating of s1, d0
  • SANS 53501-1 fire performance requirements

These fire performance characteristics allow the insulation to be used in both single and multi-level buildings where compliance with fire safety standards is required.

DURABILITY

Youngtherm® Glass Wool MBI is designed for long term performance and remains stable across the life of the building.

Durability features include:

  • Odourless, inert and compatible with all standard building materials
  • Will not promote corrosion of steel, copper or aluminium
  • Will not sustain vermin
  • Will not breed or promote fungi, mould or bacteria
  • Non-hygroscopic
  • Dust settlement will not hamper product performance

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS:

Youngtherm® Glass Wool MBI is suitable for a range of commercial and industrial roof insulation applications, including:

  • Over purlin installation in new buildings
  • Between purlin installation in existing buildings
  • Large-span commercial and industrial roof assemblies
  • Projects requiring combined thermal, acoustic and condensation control

The product should not be installed where the facing material is exposed to direct or indirect ultraviolet radiation.

INSTALLATION GUIDELINES:

Youngtherm® Glass Wool MBI should be installed in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and standard roofing installation practices.

Typical installation steps include:

  • When installing blankets over purlins in new buildings, ensure straining wires are spaced at 300 mm intervals
  • Secure the blanket at the roof apex and unroll it lengthwise, removing any slack before fastening it to the bottom purlin
  • To join adjacent blankets, overlap the foil edges, staple them together, then fold the joint over and staple once more to secure the seam
  • Take extra care when installing during windy conditions

The product should be stored under cover in dry conditions, stored flat, and handled with care on edges and corners while avoiding excessive pressure.

Correct installation ensures optimal thermal and acoustic performance.
